Fergus Polglase

During his residency with us in March 2020 Fergus created large scale paintings 1.5m x2m (min). Fergus is an expressive painter from Central St Martins in London; his paintings are inspired by cartoons and graffiti. His works are heavily layered and are built up with aggressive, heavy mark -making, but then refined and cutback by controlled painting. He uses collage, reproducing found materials and performative elements in his process of work. The work he wants to make is inspired by masculinity, the mundane, comedy and violence. Since his residency, Fergus has now become a studio member with his own studio room and will continue to work in the Fish Factory. His exhibition Sweet Dreamzzz was our first exhibition following lockdown and was a huge success
