Ben Baker is a Falmouth based artist inspired by the south-west coast and his career as a boat builder. By using iron wire, Ben transforms his intricate line drawings into a three-dimensional, illustrative style of sculpture.
These pieces of wirework are interactive, utilising mechanisms so the viewer can simply turn a handle and the sculpture will begin to move. Ben Baker experiments with playfulness, yet his pieces stay grounded to the coastal communities from which he drew inspiration, often pairing sculpture with found and reclaimed timber. 3rd December 2020 - 21st December 2020
We are saddened to say our wonderful studio artist Margaret Beardsmore passed away in May 2020. She was a peaceful and gentle spirit in our community since its beginning in 2011.
A painter at heart, Margaret completed a foundation course for Fine Art at Falmouth University and graduated with her degree in 2005. With vivid and carefully considered work, Margaret enjoyed capturing people lost in the moment, her artwork draws from life and the personal details which emerge when people become immersed within the beauty of everyday.
We're doing this a little differently this year and inviting sellers to leave their shop in our gallery for a whole week!
This means a safer and more relaxed browsing environment for all. The fair will take place every day from 10th - 14th December from 10am - 5pm and will showcase a few of our local artists and craftspeople alongside the Margaret Beardsmore exhibition and the usual items for sale in our Shop.
Please note that we will be following government guidelines, social distancing measures will be in place and masks will be required.
Join us for food and a film at the Docs Hub screening of Spaceship Earth at the Fish Factory, Penryn. 17th December. The events starts at 7pm-7:30pm for food, with the film starting at 7.45pm for only £10. TICKETS
Spaceship Earth | Dir Matt Wolf | 2020 | 113 mins | Documentary/Drama | 12
The true, stranger-than-fiction, adventure of eight visionaries who in 1991 spent two years quarantined inside of a self-engineered replica of Earth's ecosystem called Biosphere 2. The experiment was a worldwide phenomenon, chronicling daily existence in the face of life threatening ecological disaster and a growing criticism that it was nothing more than a cult. The bizarre story is both a cautionary tale and a hopeful lesson of how a small group of dreamers can potentially re-imagine a new world.
