It was so wonderful to re-open with a physical exhibition featuring all our studio holders. If you missed it, do not fear, there is still an online exhibition.
Can you bleddy believe Fish Factory Arts Space is 10!!!?? Join us on the 22nd all day for a variety of entertainment and free food and cake. The festivities will include poetry, live music, a big sound system, animations and karaoke. We will be operating out of the front of the building to manage social distancing so please be kind and give space to your neighbours.
‘Has It Come To This?’ 3rd - 7th June 2021 - Morgan Acton & Olivia Bartlett A collection of favourite works made over their past few years, works they feel best describes where they find themselves in their career and lives. This exhibition is in no way a goodbye, in no way a resolved and final show. But rather a celebration of their hard work, their hours shared, pints collectively consumed, studio meltdowns, paint spilled and dance moves created.

A language of line, texture, colour and form .... Individual parts tell me where they want to be - who they want to be friends with and who they hate to lie beside These parts use a language that is common to both Jewellery and Sculpture .... there is no difference
Life Drawing Exhibition Feb 27 - Mar 2 An exhibition of studies from or life drawings done in peer assisted study sessions at Falmouth University. The work covers a variety of styles, mediums, years of study and courses, focusing on representational, clothed life drawing.

7 March 2020 from 14:00-16:00 Mary Mawonera is an immigrant from Zimbabwe who lost her family in Zimbabwe’s violence. In this talk Mary will discuss how women can improve their self esteem and place in the world of powerful male domination, through her own difficulties as an immigrant and a women. This will be a forerunner to her 'Womens Conference' in early June (also at Fish Factory).
At the Fish Factory, we recognise the importance of Black History - it is a global story which influences the entire world in the past, present and into the future. Literature and art are the tools of freedom, expression, empathy and knowledge, which is why we have teamed up with Falmouth's favourite radical bookstore RUBICUND and the fantastically rich Cornwall Zine Library to bring you The Reading Room. From the 29th October to the 3rd November.
We will be joined by a panel of guest speakers and guided through some topics that we hope will be insightful and educational. We will also be going through some of the current language that is being used and offer definitions for some of the terms and expressions in use when people talk about race and racism. October 31st at 7pm.
Our first film is Concerning Violence and has been specially chosen to support Black History Month. Concerning Violence | Dir Göran Hugo Olsson | 2014 | 90 mins | Documentary/Drama | 15 Concerning Violence is an archive-driven documentary covering the most daring moments in the struggle for liberation in the developing world, as well as an exploration into the mechanisms of decolonization through text from Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth. Narrated by Ms Lauryn Hill.

Hans Lo July 29th- August 12th Powder Makers Hans Lo is going to spend his residency making an album as an expansion on a project started in 2018 called ‘ Powder Makers’; whereby an audio and visual ‘scape’ was created by using field recordings, analogue synthesizers, spoken words and still imagery.
Kate Caie is our artist in residence from 8th-19th July. She has travelled from New Zealand to examine the idea of 'Hireth' a Cornish word for which there is no direct English translation. It describes an intangible feeling, a longing for the familiarity and comfort of a place. Kate will be exhibiting work made during her residency, with an opening on Friday 19th July from 6.30pm.
13 - 14th July 10am – 5pm Step away from your midsummer bonfires for long enough to join us for another Flea Boot! We're celebrating the longest days with a weekend of Flea Booting and cake eating. MakeStuff/DrinkStuff is a series of workshops that provide a chance to learn a new skill, eat cake and have a drink. 5th May 2019 - For this workshop you will learn about the history of collage in art, its place in contemporary art, and make your own collage pieces. 12th June - For this workshop you will learn about using your sewing machine, how to thread it and how to sew a simple draw string bag.

23rd May – 3rd June 2019 As part of Fal River Festival, In Cornish folklore, the Morgawr (meaning sea giant in Cornish) is a sea serpent that purportedly inhabits the sea near Falmouth Bay, Cornwall, England. 2 May 2019 For the release of ISSUE 2 of Sub Magazine there will be an event on at The Fish Factory in Penryn to celebrate. The idea of this event is to celebrate the magazine but more so the people involved and for people to come along and enjoy an arty space. There will be magazines on sale (£5) and an exclusive for all people who attend.
4 May 2019 from 19:30-23:30 La Notte Delle Streghe are an Italian trio playing 12 string acoustic guitar, accordion and percussion.
May 3 - 6th 2019 Artist in residence Rebecca Weeks has spent her time here breaking away from her usual screenprint practice to work with monoprinting, linocut and painting. Inspired by subjects as wide ranging as the door of the Fish Factory, the mummified rat in Penryn museum and the Witchcraft museum at Boscastle, Rebecca has used her time here to fully explore the area. This exhibition will showcase some of her screenprints, matchbox books and work made during her residency.
Saffron Cawley- The Feeling of Snow 25 April – 29 April 10am - 5pm The feeling of snow is a photographic project exploring the relationship we have with snow, and how snow makes us feel, through the use of landscape and minimalist photography. Broken into two parts, one showing a disorganised chaotic view of the landscape. Showing the smaller finer details and textures, using form, line and shadows to construct the images.

Oscillation and Hockeysmith Saturday, 13 April 2019 from 20:00-23:30 Excited to announce The Oscillation will be bringing their fused mantra of Psychedelic, Krautrock, Spacerock and Techno to The Fish Factory. It will be a home coming to main man Demian Castellanos as he is originally from The Lizard.

clock 4 April – 7 April 2019 With a one off exhibition we will be celebrating the work of photographer and filmmaker Ian Stern. In association with Falmouth University Archives and Special Collections you will be able to see the different sides to Ian's work from the documentary to the abstract. There will also be the chance to see never before exhibited contact sheets and behind the scenes material that will give photographers and artists alike a valuable insight into Ian's working process.

Kruptos: An exhibition of new work by Mairead Dunne. A grotto is a natural or artificial cave containing a smaller chamber or cavern. The etymology of grotto is derived from the Greek word Kruptos, meaning secret or hidden. Working across miniature tableaus and site-specific installations KRUPTOS thematically brings together work in photography, sculpture, and video. 7-18th March

Resident Artist Exhibition: Good Morning Shining Sun Good Morning Sun reflects on the impact of global warming. This exhibition by artist in residence Hazel Soper is the first in a series of events hosted by the Fish Factory during September, leading up to our full reopening in October. Since 2012 he has been performing solo delivering a fragmented and dexterous music that takes in post-punk, avant-folk. Léonore Boulanger studied drama, experimental jazz improvisation and Persian music in Paris.

Yoonjung Kim - Penryn Activity Opening Night: October 10, 2019 at 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM During a residency in Austria in 2016 Yoonjung visited the Natural History Museum in Vienna and became fascinated by mineral samples - how their crystalline internal geometries formed determining their physical properties in a way that felt fundamental to understanding time and process. Using minerals lead to an interest in geology and deep time, and its relationship with human activity.

Book Launch- Charles Causley A Portrait of The Poet October 3, 2019 at 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM The book has been designed and illustrated by Irene Vidal Cal, whose residency at the poet’s former home, ‘Cyprus Well’ in Launceston, inspired the drawings of many of Causley’s most beloved objects within the house which form a visually poetic backdrop to the text.

He is visiting us on a residency and currently exhibiting his installation "Blood on Snow" which combines accumulative, craft oriented practice with ephemeral, disposable materials such as band aids, Kleenex and post-its to create epic, monumental sculptures and performances.

This exhibition showcases some of the photographic work Sophie Sherwood made during her time here, using sea water and seaweed gathered from beaches she visited around Cornwall. Also on display are a selection of artist zines from DobraVaga gallery in Ljubljana that Lara has chosen to share. Brexitfest 2.0 20th June - 24th June Another chance to see the work submitted as part of the Lyin' Politicians Festival. Artists were asked to send up to 2 jpgs of their work on the theme of Brexit which were printed out and displayed during the weekend Brexit was originally due to happen (March 29-31st). The 2 entries judged the best from the applicants will be given a full exhibition of their work.
17th June – 30th June Norma Foulds is one of our artists in residence for 2019. Throughout her work she uses found objects, such as pebbles, collected from the coastline near where she lives. These explorations of the coastline have developed into the project “Coastal Footings”. The residency at Fish Factory is a continuation of this project, and will enable her to compare and contrast her experience of the Lancashire coastline with that of Cornwall.

1) 26th May – Jessi Norgard/ Dan Korn and Joe Sharp Jessi will be playing two live gigs this weekend launching 'Temporary Kind', her new 5 track EP, at two of her favourite spots in Falmouth. Alongside friends and talented fellow musicians Rob Holt (guitar) and Terry McClintock (drums/percussion). Sharing the bill all the way from London are folk duo Dan Korn and Joe Sharp. Dan and Joe are bringing beautifully crafted songs (some written about Cornwall) and exquisite harmonies with them.
