Kate Caie is our artist in residence from 8th-19th July. She has travelled from New Zealand to examine the idea of 'Hireth' a Cornish word for which there is no direct English translation. It describes an intangible feeling, a longing for the familiarity and comfort of a place.Kate will be exhibiting work made during her residency, with an opening on Friday 19th July from 6.30pm.

Rebecca Weeks Exhibition
May 3 - 6th 2019Artist in residence Rebecca Weeks has spent her time here breaking away from her usual screenprint practice to work with monoprinting, linocut and painting. Inspired by subjects as wide ranging as the door of the Fish Factory, the mummified rat in Penryn museum and the Witchcraft museum at Boscastle, Rebecca has used her time here to fully explore the area. This exhibition will showcase some of her screenprints, matchbox books and work made during her residency.

At the Fish Factory, we recognise the importance of Black History - it is a global story which influences the entire world in the past, present and into the future.Literature and art are the tools of freedom, expression, empathy and knowledge, which is why we have teamed up with Falmouth's favourite radical bookstore RUBICUND and the fantastically rich Cornwall Zine Library to bring you The Reading Room.

During a residency in Austria in 2016 Yoonjung visited the Natural History Museum in Vienna and became fascinated by mineral samples - how their crystalline internal geometries formed determining their physical properties in a way that felt fundamental to understanding time and process. Using minerals lead to an interest in geology and deep time, and its relationship with human activity.

The book has been designed and illustrated by Irene Vidal Cal, whose residency at the poet’s former home, ‘Cyprus Well’ in Launceston, inspired the drawings of many of Causley’s most beloved objects within the house which form a visually poetic backdrop to the text.

Throughout her work she uses found objects, such as pebbles, collected from the coastline near where she lives. These explorations of the coastline have developed into the project “Coastal Footings”. The residency at Fish Factory is a continuation of this project, and will enable her to compare and contrast her experience of the Lancashire coastline with that of Cornwall.
